    Amsterdam for the Students

University is a time for exploration and adventure, and there’s nothing like taking a trip abroad with your new dorm mates to get your new term started! Choosing where to go however can be a tricky decision, especially as there are so many amazing cities to visit, from Paris and Milan to Berlin and London. Typically, students will be working to a tighter budget than other tourists, so with this in mind, one of the best cities to visit this year is Amsterdam. Not only can it offer students a wealth of free attractions, but from hotels to cheap hotels, there are plenty of opportunities to save money! If you’re considering taking a short vacation to the Dutch capital this year, here are some of the top attractions you simply can’t miss out on.

    Begijhof

Hidden behind a sneaky door on Spui Square, Begijhof is a spectacular world of reflection just waiting to be explored. This beautiful courtyard is not only one of the city’s top free attractions, but because of the wealth of people it attracts, meeting other students is easy. Dating back to the 14th century, it was once home to nuns and religious women who practiced a vow of chastity, and to this day there’s still one of the small pray chapels still standing!

    Schuttersgalerji

Another great attraction for students, Schuttersgalerji is only a few minutes walk from the Begijhof garden, and is one of the best museums in the city. Officially, it is part of the Museum of Amsterdam, however it continues to brand itself different from its parent company to attract different kinds of visitors of all ages. From modern portraits to historical masterpieces, this gallery is a far cry from the usual dull setting, employing vibrant colours and music to adapt to the ever-changing art scene in Amsterdam.

    Walking and Cycling Tours

If there’s one thing Amsterdam is famous for, it’s cycling. There are literally hundreds of thousands of bikes in the city, and for students, this is a cheap way to explore the city! To see Amsterdam in all its glory however, cycling tours are available from seasoned tour guides, who will take you to all the tourist attractions as well as some of the more unknown ones. Additionally, if you want to take things at a slower pace and walk, nearly all of the city is signposted, so it’s very easy to get around. Ensure you get the cheapest airfares to Amsterdam this year, there are loads of amazing offers to be found!

    Music Concerts

No matter what time of the year you decide to visit Amsterdam, you’ll surely come across a free music concert in the city – which is great for students on a budget! From classical to jazz, rock to pop, there are a number of concert halls that offer free entry, however the best places to see live music will be outside in the public squares. Not only will you be able to grab a bite to eat and listen from the local restaurants, but the music doesn’t stop until early evening, meaning a whole day of free entertainment!
